What is S.T.A.R.S.?

Students & Teachers Actively Reaching Success

S.T.A.R.S. is a 21st Century grant funded program provided by the Ohio Department of Education.  Our goal at Glenford is to provide before and after school learning and enrichment opportunities through homework help, small group intervention, family events, various club activities, and much more.   In the past two years, our program has been able to bring in The Works for STEM based learning and for an assembly for students and their families. We have Yoga/Meditation classes, Cardio Drumming classes, and Walking club.  We continued a student favorite, Nature Club!  We have also implemented learning with Legos, Board Games, Life Skills, STEM club, and Drama club!  S.T.A.R.S. students and their families went to Van Buren Acres, free of charge in 2023!  We have numerous family events where we partner with community organizations to allow “outside of the box”  learning opportunities along with having fun!

Our S.T.A.R.S. students are tested in Math and Reading using the Renaissance STAR test throughout their elementary school career to assist us in determining how best to help them succeed in those areas.  Parents and Staff members also complete DESSA screenings for each student to determine if any additional social emotional or peer related aid can be given during their time in our program.

The Glenford S.T.A.R.S morning program takes place Monday-Friday 7:30am-9:00am.  The afterschool program takes place Monday-Thursday 3:40-5:40 pm.  If there are any cancellations, delays, or early dismissals for the district, program hours and availability will change.

Our friends are excited to earn their jibbitz for attendance!

During Nature Club, the STARS students learn about animals that live around them.

They always enjoy the Nature at Night experiences as well.

This year STARS students and their families went to Van Buren Acres for FREE!

The students got to make their own paper with Hallie Clark, the Education Specialist with Perry County Waste Reduction and Recycling.

The kids really get moving to the beat when we bring in Cardio Drumming.

The Works, out of Newark, has been coming to work with our STARS students for the last few years.  They focus on STEM related activities.  This year, several of the projects were sponsored by Intel.

A Glenford STARS family favorite event is Winterfest.  Families come together to decorate cookies, have hot chocolate, make crafts, play games, and tell Santa their Christmas wishes.
